Puget Sound Educational Service District
Transportation | Road to Independence Van Program
1282 Valentine Ave SE | Pacific, WA 98047

Puget Sound Educational Service District offers free Commercial Driver Training for Veterans who volunteer 260 hours with the road to independence van program.

In operation since 2002, the road to independence is a no-cost ride service for the transportation disadvantaged populations; including low income veterans, seniors and those with special needs. Eligible riders are going to or from their job sites or work related activities. They live and work in the North/East Pierce County and or South King County.

Volunteer drivers use a company vehicle discussed out of Pacific WA.

Drivers I needed Monday – Friday, 6 AM – 6 PM; closed weekends and holidays.

Drive as much or as little as you like.  (Example: if you volunteer 20 hours per week and it would take approximately three months to reach 260 hours and qualify for CDL training.)

Upon completion of this DOL and OSPI Certified Training Course, you will have the knowledge and tools to test your CDL class B with school bus & passenger endorsement and airbrakes restriction removed.

Minimum driver qualifications:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Hold an acceptable driving record for at least three years
  • Passive federal background check the fingerprinting
  • Submit to drug and alcohol screenings
